Casey LeClair Brings Circus Life to Studio Kroner in Cincinnati’s FotoFocus Biennial Exhibition

Studio Kroner is excited to present Moving Parts, a captivating photography exhibition by Cincinnati-based artist Casey LeClair. Through his lens, LeClair captures the artistry and behind-the-scenes intricacies of a family circus. As part of the 2024 FotoFocus Biennial, Moving Parts aligns with this year's theme, "Backstories," offering viewers an intimate look at the unseen physical and emotional labor that defines the life of a nomadic family of performers.

LeClair's work has been featured in National Geographic, The Daily Beast, LensCulture, and other prominent publications. His new exhibition at Studio Kroner documents a three-generation Chilean family of circus performers, focusing on their daily routines as artists, the construction of their tent, and the dismantling process, without ever showcasing their actual live performances.

"My goal is to capture the magic that exists beyond the spotlight, in the labor and love that holds the circus together. It's a reflection of life itself—fragile, fleeting, yet profoundly beautiful in its repetition." Casey LeClair reflecting on his body of work.

The exhibit is a culmination of years of dedication to visual storytelling, highlighting the physicality, light, and emotion that go into sustaining the life of a family circus. The work transports the viewer into a world of both beauty and practicality, balancing the spectacle of the circus with the grit of the hard work behind it.

Studio Kroner owner Paul Kroner shares his excitement: "We're thrilled to be a part of the 2024 FotoFocus Biennial with Casey LeClair's captivating photographic journey. His work offers intimate insights into the artistry and labor behind a vanishing family business—the circus. It's an honor to showcase this transcendent portrayal of dynamic light and harmonious beauty at Studio Kroner, and to be part of an event that celebrates stories often left untold. This exhibit embodies what FotoFocus is all about: revealing the deeper narrative behind the images."
